Clinical Indicators in Women's Health

1. Benchmarking Maternity Care

WHA  conducts regular surveys amongst member hospitals on a range of clinical indicators relating to maternity care.  Reports have been published since 1997.

1. Benchmarking Maternity Care 2000-05 - providing a five year collation of data provided by member hospitals.

2. Benchmarking Maternity Care 2006-08.

This Report is available to member hospitals only

The current collection includes indicators relating to:

1. Caesarean Section Rates7. General Anaesthesia for Caesarean Section
2. Vaginal Birth after Caesarean 8. Episiotomy and Third or Fourth degree, Perineal Tear
3. Spontaneous Vaginal Birth 9. Postpartum Haemorrhage and Transfusion
4. Induction of labour10. Apgar Score
5. Instrumental Birth11. Hypoxic Ischaemic Encephalopathy
6. Epidural for Pain Relief

Indicators are chosen on the basis that they:

  • are readily collectable
  • have a significant degree of clinical relevance
  • are capable of identifying a process/outcome that is capable of modification
  • are able to be benchmarked with comparable facilities

2. Gynaecology Indicators and Audits
