WHA Medal of Distinction

The Medal of Distinction was established by Women’s Hospitals Australasia (WHA) in 2004. The Medal of Distinction is awarded at the AGM and is intended to honour those individuals who make an outstanding contribution to improving the health of women through service provision, leadership or advocacy. It may be awarded to individuals directly affiliated with WHA or members of the broader community who, through their exceptional endeavours, contribute to significant improvements in women’s health.

For those directly affiliated with WHA, the criteria for awarding the Medal of Distinction include a significant period of service to WHA and sustained leadership and advocacy for women’s health. It is not awarded for long service but, rather, for exceptional and meritorious service. For members of the broader community, the criterion is recognition at a national level for leadership and advocacy for women’s health.

Each year, the President consults with the Executive of WHA to seek nominations for the Award.  Ordinarily one Medal will be awarded each year. However, on occasion, the association may decide to award more than one Medal in a given year or alternatively to award none.
