History

WHA was established by nine founding hospitals in 1994 for the purpose of sharing knowledge and experiences between specialist hospitals concerned with the care of women and neonates. Since that time, WHA has grown to incorporate most major women's hospitals and health units throughout Australia and New Zealand and is a peak advocacy body.

Governance

WHA is a non-for-profit incorporated Association registered in the ACT. It is governend by an Executive Committee which is elected at the Annual General Meeting. The WHA constitution and the Associations Incorporate Act (ACT) provide the legal framework within which WHA operates. The Chief Executive Officer acts as the Public Officer for WHA.
