About Women's Hospitals AustralasiaWomen's Hospitals Australasia is a not for profit Association incorporated in the ACT(1994) which advocates for the health care needs of women and babies in Australia and New Zealand. It represents many major women's hospitals and health units throughout Australia and New Zealand and is a peak advocacy body. The Association is governed by an Executive Committee which meets every six weeks by teleconference. The Chief Executive Officer participates in Executive meetings and acts as the the Public Officer for the Association.
Member hospitals provide health care services for a significant proportion of babies born in Australia and New Zealand. Many member hospitals are also leaders in the provision of neonatal care and neonatal intensive care with a large proportion of neonatal intensive care beds based in member hospitals. WHA provides a collaborative network for member hospitals to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and best practice. WHA also provides an industry voice for the common interests and concerns of Australian and New Zealand women's hospitals and health units.
Any hospital that provides health care to women, whether a stand alone specialist hospital for women or a women's health service located within a general hospital, is eligible to become a member of Women's Hospitals Australasia. WHA also seeks to develop cooperative relationships with other organisations that are not direct providers of health services to women but have a mission which is aligned to enhancing the health and well being of women and babies. Further details can be obtained from the Chief Executive Officer.
